Needle Felted Creatures, Dolls, and Characters

This workshop is open to beginners and people with previous needle felting experience. In this workshop you will learn how to make needle felted creatures or dolls. You will have the option to explore and play using different fibers and colors, wire armatures, core wool to fill out larger projects, incorporating fabric and other materials, and delving into finer details. Come with pictures or drawings of an animal, figurine, or other character that you would like to create.

12-3:00pm Saturday, February 24th. Ages 11+ All materials provided

March 3, 10, 17, 24, 1-4 pm

Learn how to use a floor loom to create one of a kind rag rugs. In this class you will learn how to make a warp, set up a loom, recycle fabric and clothes into strips to weave with, plain weave, twill patterns, and finishing techniques for the rug. Each student will have a small rug to take home at the end of the class. Students will be able to work on their projects outside of class time during FABRIC’s open hours.

All materials included, students are welcome to bring clothes or fabrics to supplement provided materials.

Bring in your sewing machine or try out one of ours. Get your questions about sewing machines answered and learn how to thread the machine, change between stitches, adjust tension, and sew even seam allowances. Learn how to make a simple drawstring pouch to try out your new skills and gain confidence with the machine!

Suggested ages 10+

2 DAY WORKSHOP:

Experimental Surfaces: Machine Stitching, Water Soluble Stabilizer and Unexpected Materials.

This workshop will focus on constructing dynamic, textured, mixed media surfaces with machine embroidery and Sulky® water soluble stabilizers. We will explore the use of 3 different types of water soluble stabilizer to discover create textile structures with stitch. Students will be encouraged to experiment with an assortment of materials like plastics, papers, and yarns to create a variety of samples exploring different texture and color combinations with a variety of stabilizers. Try a Tool: Table Looms

In our “Try a Tool” series we will be offering informal open house style introductions to tools in our library.

We will have different styles of 2 and 4 harness table looms set up with a variety of projects and types of yarns and fibers. Get an introduction to how these looms work, learn plain weave and twill patterns, and get information about borrowing a table loom from our tool library!

This is an opportunity to get some hands on experience and to learn about some of the ways you can use these tools to take your creative process further.

Try a Tool: Knitting Machines + Silhouette CAMEO

In our “Try a Tool” series we will be offering informal open house style introductions to tools in our library.

Knitting machines come in a variety of shapes and sizes for different kinds of projects. We will be demonstrating an Addi Express- a circular knitting machine, and a Brother kx-350 which knits flat panels.

The Silhouette CAMEO uses a small blade to cut over 100 materials, including paper, cardstock, vinyl, and fabric. The CAMEO has the ability to register and cut printed materials and is PixScan™ compatible.

This is an opportunity to get some hands on experience and to learn about some of the ways you can use these tools to take your creative process further.
